Lanbo Yang is a Senior Partner at Hengtai Law Offices with more than 20 years of cross-border legal and business experience, focusing on healthcare and life sciences and advising clients on complex regulatory, compliance, and governance matters.

Ms. Yang worked at the Shanghai representative offices of U.S. and European law firms before serving as Senior Director of Legal, China at Medtronic and Head of Legal and Compliance, China at Gilead Sciences. This combination of international law-firm experience and senior in-house legal and compliance leadership enables her to provide clients with both legal insight and a business-oriented perspective. She has a deep understanding of management needs in business decision-making, risk management, and commercial development, and provides actionable advice by integrating legal rules, regulatory requirements, industry context, and commercial objectives.

In the healthcare and life sciences sector, Ms. Yang advises on complex legal and governance matters in highly regulated environments. Her experience spans regulatory and compliance matters, corporate governance, internal investigations, senior management liability, anti-bribery and antitrust matters, major transactions and commercial collaborations, data and personal information protection, cross-border data transfers, and complex commercial dispute resolution.

Led the response to the first antitrust investigation in China’s medical device industry.

Represented a multinational medical device company in proceedings against its former senior executive for breach of the duty of diligence, giving rise to tortious liability for losses suffered by the company. The matter involved medical device compliance requirements, corporate governance mechanisms, and the determination of senior management liability. The client prevailed on its key claims at first instance, and the judgment was affirmed on appeal.

Assisted with a strategic collaboration between CSPC Pharmaceutical Group and Pfizer relating to COVID-19 treatment.

Assisted a European company with the filing of China’s Standard Contract for the Cross-Border Transfer of Personal Information.
